Haiku Contest

Haiku Contest - Ends March 4
Posted on 02/15/2024
The 2024 Team BCPS Haiku Contest, which will accept entries from February 16 through March 4, is a celebration of student writing, student art, and student voice. In this year's contest, once again, students will be invited to choose from among 10 pieces of student artwork and to write haiku inspired by that artwork. Students from all grade levels are encouraged to participate. BCPS uses the How Many Syllables website

to check syllable counts. Each student may enter only one haiku using an online form, and it must be an original poem. Haiku found to be plagiarized will be disqualified. Students are encouraged to be creative in their use of imagery and vocabulary. Winning haiku will be chosen at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and the winners and their prizes will be announced on Wednesday, April 17, International Haiku Poetry Day. As in prior years, the winning poems and additional selected haiku will be compiled into an online book with student artwork. Each school library will receive a print copy.
