The
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program at Dundalk
High School is designed to prepare students in the academic middle
(grades of B, C, and even D) for four-year college eligibility. The
program targets students who meet the academic profile and have the
desire to go to college with the willingness to work hard. These
are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but
are falling short of their potential. Typically, they will be the
first in their families to attend college, and many are from
low-income or minority families. AVID moves these students out of
potentially unchallenging courses for their skill set and place them
in the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
